Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association’s national movement dedicated to making a difference in the fight against heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women. While 1 in 3 women die from heart disease, 80% of the time it can be prevented if we make the right choices. The Go Red movement encourages women to live healthier lives and provides critical research to learn more about gender-specific detection and treatment. Go Red For Women has made a significant impact in 10 years. As a result, 34% fewer women are dying from heart disease each year and 23% more women are aware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer. The movement is growing as 330 women per day are being saved; however, heart disease still takes nearly 1,100 women each day.

The Circle of Red, founded locally in 2008, is a group of passionate women leaders recognized for increasing awareness and improving women’s heart health. Men Go Red For Women, founded in 2011, gives men the opportunity to support the special women in their lives. Members help save lives through an annual gift of $2,500 to the American Heart Association, and they serve as ambassadors for the cause. Recently, members developed a 3-year plan to teach hands-only CPR, with the help of Louisville Metro EMS. Over 2,000 have been trained since 2013.

The Ruby Level for Circle of Red is an opportunity to make a bigger difference. Ruby donors who support healthy hearts in women with an annual gift of $5,000 or more will receive recognition as a member of Cor Vitae (The Heart of Life), our national philanthropic giving society.

Membership benefits include: VIP seat and recognition at the Go Red For Women Luncheon (May 17, 2016); participation in photo shoot for Today’s Woman magazine (late 2015); invitation to year-round social and educational events; and the chance to connect with others who share a passion for heart health. Ruby/Cor Vitae members also receive a custom 30 by 30 abstract “heart” painting with frame by a local artist, two seats to the Heart Ball (February 20, 2016) and an additional seat to the luncheon to invite a guest.
